The 2011 Cr Carol Martin Millinery Competition
Jayne Warnes Prize
_This photo of Jayne Warnes, the winner of the inaugural Cr Carol Martin
Millinery Competition is treasured by the AnnaRennieChapter as a
reminder of a beautiful woman who's life we celebrate. Jayne lived in
Largs Bay and made our world a little more beautiful for 54 years until
she sadly passed away on 29 June 2011. Jayne was integrally involved in
the Competition since it’s beginnings but had been involved in millinery
for many years before then, initially, as a competitive pony driver in
the 1980s! When competing, full costume was necessary but the cost of
hats was expensive. So Jayne set about learning to make her own. Over
the next 30 years Jayne’s creative millinery skill and talent saw her
become Adelaide’s best known millinery guru winning many competitions and
tutoring and encouraging the incredibly talented up coming Adelaide
milliners through TAFE.
We are certain that Jayne is smiling down on us and is particularly pleased that from 2011 the Encouragement Award for the junior entrants in the Millinery Competition is named in her honour, the Jayne Warnes Prize.
